Segal has a good differentiation between these two rubrics

Clinged patient is some one who is attached to you. It has two subrubrics

  • Clinging, held: The patient praise you. He told you that you are the best doctor and he does not leave you until complete treatment. Here the patient cling your personality/ Specialty / Kindness / Energy. In this situation the patient insist on his desire and do not leave you even if you disclaim him
  • Carried desire is a patient that request your treatment / Protection. So first he ask you then come to visit you but clinged patient does not ask you, he come and do not leave you until complete treatment

Both Gels and Stram has clinging. But the underlying reson is different. Stram is frighted but Gels understands that you are an appropriate person and could help him. Also Gels need reassurance and it is enough for him to cling you.
