Clinic
- It is permanent enlargement of parts of the airways
- The development of bronchiectasis requires two factors:
- An initial inflammation of lung tissue such as infection or autoimmunity or aspiration syndromes seen in GERD
- This leads to impaired mucociliary clearance, obstruction, or a defect in host defense. This triggers a host immune response from neutrophils (elastases), reactive oxygen species, and inflammatory cytokines that results in progressive destruction of normal lung architecture.
- In particular, the elastic fibers of bronchi are affected.
- The result is permanent abnormal dilation and destruction of the major bronchi and bronchiole walls
Note
- There is two kind of pathogenesis in Lung tissues, Fibrosis and looseness.
- Intermingling both of them could be due to MTB, Although HCV is also considered in fibrosis.
- Bronchiectasis is an entity composed of inflammation of airways (Large to Medium sized) which lads to looseness of them
