- Listeria monocytogenes meningitis primarily occurs in patients with immunosuppression or those with coexisting diseases, the elderly, or neonates.
- Lsteria brainstem encephalitis predominantly occurs in previously healthy people.
- Prodrome clinical manifestations: Malaise, fever, headache, vomiting, and sweating,
- Brainstem encephalitis which may leads to Progressive brainstem deficits including
- Cranial nerve palsy
- Cerebellar dysfunction/ Ataxia.
- Motor / Sensory deficits of extremities
- Respiratory distress
- Consciousness impairment
- Seizure
- Meningitis
- Dysphagia or dysarthria.
