- PLS is a very rare neuromuscular disease characterized by progressive muscle weakness in the voluntary muscles.
- PLS belongs to motor neuron diseases.
- PLS only affects upper motor neurons.
Symptoms / Signs
- Difficulty with balance, weakness
- Stiffness in the legs, clumsiness
- Spasticity in hands, feet, or legs
- Foot dragging
- Speech and swallowing problems due to involvement of the facial muscles.
- Breathing difficulties
- Hyperreflexia presenting with the Babinski's sign
- Emotional lability
