Clinic
- Keratitis is an entity belongs to eye entities in which eye's cornea becomes inflamed.
- It has two types, Acute and Chronic
- Acute epithelial keratitis, Nummular keratitis, Interstitial keratitis and Disciform keratitis are acute forms
- Neurotrophic keratitis and Mucous plaque keratitis are chronic
- Clinical forms are Superficial punctate keratitis and Ulcerative keratitis
Sign / Symptoms
Inflammation of eye's cornea which leads to
- Painful red eye
- Impaired eyesight
- Photophobia
- Sand/ Gritty sensation
Causes
- Viral: Herpes simplex keratitis (dendritic keratitis) and Herpes zoster keratitis, associated with herpes zoster ophthalmicus
- Bacterial: Staphylococcus aureus and Pseudomonas aeruginosa
- Fungal: Aspergillus fumigatus and Candida albicans
- Amoebic: Acanthamoebic keratitis
- Parasitic: Onchocercal keratitis
- Environmental aetiology: Exposure keratitis, Photokeratitis and Contact lens acute red eye (CLARE)
