- Laryngitis is inflammation of the larynx
- Acute cases usually occur as part of a viral upper respiratory tract infection, other infections and trauma such as from coughing are other causes.
- Chronic cases may occur due to smoking, tuberculosis, allergies, acid reflux, rheumatoid arthritis, or sarcoidosis.
Signs / Symptoms
- The primary symptom is voice hoarseness , others are
- Dry or sore throat
- Coughing
- Hawking
- Salivation
- Dysphagia
- Sensation of swelling in larynx
- Globus pharyngeus
- Cold or flu-like symptoms
- Throat / Chest / Face lymphadenopathy
- Myalgia
- Shortness of breath, predominantly in children
Viral causes
- RNV
- INFL
- PIV
- ADV
- COV-2
- RSV
Bacterial causes
- Group A streptococcus, Streptococcus pneumoniae, C. diphtheriae, M. catarrhalis, Haemophilus influenzae, Bordetella pertussis, Bacillus anthracis, and MTB
Fungal causes
- Histoplasma, Blastomyces, Candida and Cryptococcus and Coccidioides
Differential diagnosis
- Acute epiglottitis
- Spasmodic dysphonia
- Reflux laryngitis
- Chronic allergic laryngitis
- Neoplasm
- Croup
Remedies
Arg-n : Singer 's laryngitis
