Clinic
- IC is a type of bladder pain syndrome (BPS)
- Chronic pain in the bladder and pelvic floor with unknown cause.
- Symptoms include
- Urine urgency
- Frequency (esp noctural)
- Painful intercourse (dyspareunia)
- Urinary hesitancy (needing to wait for the urinary stream to begin, often caused by pelvic floor dysfunction and tension)
- IC/BPS is associated with Depression
- Other conditions which can produce similar symptoms include overactive bladder, urinary tract infection (UTI), sexually transmitted infections, prostatitis, endometriosis and bladder cancer.
- There is no cure for interstitial cystitis and management of this condition can be challenging.
