- The clinical syndrome is often characterized by the rapid onset of fever, headache, seizures, focal neurologic signs, and impaired consciousness. [1]
- ANE or sometimes necrotizing encephalitis or infection-induced acute encephalopathy (IIAE) is a rare type of encephalopathy that occurs following a viral infection.
- Influenza A and B
- HHV-6
- HSV-1 is the most common cause of sporadic necrotizing encephalitis
- Multiple subtypes, associated with specific genes have been found.
Symptoms
- Typical symptoms of an infection, such as fever, cough, congestion, vomiting, and diarrhea, for a few days.
- Following flu-like symptoms, neurological problems such as
- Seizure
- Hallucination
- Ataxia
- Abnormal muscle tone
- Coma
