Terminology
- Many authors use the terms dermatitis and eczema synonymously
- Others use the term eczema to specifically mean atopic dermatitis
- Atopic dermatitis is also known as atopic eczema
Types
- Atopic dermatitis: Dry, itchy, red skin
- Contact dermatitis
- Stasis dermatitis
- Dermatitis herpetiformis: Itching, Stinging , Burning sensation. Papules / Vesicles. Small red bumps are usually about 1 cm in size, red in color and may be found symmetrically grouped or distributed
- Seborrhoeic dermatitis: Appear gradually, from dry or greasy scaling of the scalp (dandruff) to scaling of facial areas. Sometimes itching, but without hair loss. Graph
- It has vesicular / Herpetic / Exudating eruption which leads to Eczema
- Small, crusty, dry and scaly rashes (Graph ₳ Petr)
- Eyelids Eczema: Cracked but moist rashes
- The edge of the eyelids is red and covered with dandruff and crust
- Oozing rashes: clear, watery and sticky secretions that scab over the rash
- Unhealthy/sensitive skin that easily infects with any trauma (Hep, Merc)
- Abscess and opening of old breast wounds
