- Also known as circinate balanitis
- It is a serpiginous ring-shaped dermatitis of penis glans
- It is one of the most common cutaneous manifestations of reactive arthritis, it can also occur independently.
- At the beginning, people show pin-sized dots with white plaque on them which constantly grow into flat, red areas hardly surrounded by white plaque.
- Despite the visible symptoms, often do not suffer from burning or itching, nor does it smell strange.
- Differential diagnosis: Mycosis
- Balanitis is an inflammation of the head (glans) of the penis and the foreskin (flap of skin covering the glans).
- Balanitis can be painful but is not usually a serious condition.
- It is most common in uncircumcised men having foreskin around the head of the penis.
- Balanitis can be caused by infections from overgrowth of yeast and bacteria under the foreskin.
- Poor hygiene is the main contributing factor.
Cause
- Reactive arthritis is characterized by nongonococcal urethritis, conjunctivitis, and arthritis.
- Reactive arthritis belongs to the group of arthritides known as the spondyloarthritides.
- There are two main types of reactive arthritis: post-venereal and post-enteric.
