Clinic

• It is one of common viral miasms.

• It causes Acute poliomyelitis which leads to Neural necrosis
• Also causes CSF pleocytosis which involves Anterior horn motor neurons of Spinal cord and brain stem (Bulbar Paralysis)
• Spasm
  • Involuntary muscle spasm
  • Seizure
  • Fasciculation
  • Severe painful

Post-polio syndrome

• PPS is a group of latent symptoms of poliomyelitis occurring at about a 25–40% rate (latest data greater than 80%).
• Typically occur 15 to 30 years after an initial acute paralytic attack.
• Symptoms include
  • Decreasing muscular function / Acute weakness with
  • Pain and fatigue
  • Problems breathing or swallowing
  • Sleep-related breathing disorders, such as sleep apnea, and
  • Decreased tolerance for cold temperatures
  • Slight jitter exhibited in handwriting.
